This action research aims at finding the best approach in helping the students to overcome their problems in writing. 25 students from F5P5 are selected to undergo the suggested approach. The approach that is used to help the students to improve their writing skills is, conferencing technique. In the first stage, the lecturer chose 2 classes which are F5T5 and F4T1 to get involved in this research. One of the classes, F5T5 is chosen as the experimental group, whereby this group has to undergo the process of conferencing based on the schedule prepared by the lecturer. The other class is under controlled group which would undergo the normal approach, comments are written on the students’ paper. For each development, starting from the introduction paragraph, students have to submit their drafts to the lecturer. For the experimental group, lecturer would conference with the students based on the schedule prepared and, for the controlled group, lecturer would write the comments on what to improve or students’ errors on the drafts. At the end of the process, both groups have to submit their essays. Result shows that there are some differences between the results of the students in the experimental group and controlled group. The overall marks for students under experimental group outweigh the students in the controlled group. Two students managed to get Band 4, which are good writer, and many of them got Band 3, average level, and one student is for poor writer. However, for the students who are under the controlled group, one of them got Band 4, majority of them got Band 3, which is the average level, and a few of them got Band 2, which are poor writer.
